Fiat, Italian gov't on crucial car talks

Last January 27, top executives of Fiat, Italy's largest auto maker, met with government officials to engage in crucial talks about stimulating consumers to buy cars in a worsening auto industry. Fiat is on the verge of destruction, and their calls to the Italian government have ended up unanswered for months.

The government said that it plans to launch and relaunch existing sales incentives.

Fiat still in talks with Chrysler

Italian auto maker Fiat is still in talks with struggling US auto maker Chrysler in a deal that is seen to be beneficial for the Italian car maker.

Under the proposed deal, Fiat will have a 35% company share in Chrysler in exchange of allowing the latter to access the former's fuel efficient platforms and sales to markets outside the United States.

This is largely seen to be a good deal for Fiat since this will allow the company to enter the US market, still the world's largest despite the recession.
